  • Important Payroll Deadline for Thanksgiving Week

    Due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday the deadline for biweekly time to be submitted will be 11:59 a.m. Monday, November 25. It is imperative that all approvals be completed by the revised deadline in order for the payroll to process and pay employees on time. Employees who plan to be out during the holiday period should make sure their time is entered and submitted for approval prior to leaving campus. Approvers who plan to be out during the holiday period should make sure that proxies have been assigned prior to leaving campus or arrangements have been made to ensure that approvals will be completed on or before the deadline.

All approvers should have a proxy appointed in case of their absence. Please ask the proxy to try out their new access to ensure they can access the same screens they need.

  • 2020 Livingston C. Lord Scholarship Nominations Due November 22


    The EIU Alumni Association requests assistance in obtaining nominations for the 2020 Livingston C. Lord Scholarship. The scholarship was established by the Alumni Association in honor of Eastern’s first president. For decades, it has been considered to be EIU’s most prestigious award for academic excellence, and it is the only scholarship for which the recipients are honored annually during the spring commencement ceremony. The monetary award for each of the five scholarships presented in 2019 was $7,000.

    北京快3回血技巧To be eligible for this scholarship, a nominee must be an undergraduate student enrolled in a degree program leading to teacher certification and planning for a career in elementary, middle level, or secondary education. They must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher, and they must be of junior status with at least 30 credit hours attained at Eastern Illinois University by the beginning of the fall semester in which the award is to be given. In addition, nominees must have at least 24 credit hours remaining in their respective degree programs at the beginning of the fall semester in which the award is to be given.

    北京快3回血技巧The scholarship will be applied to the students’ University accounts after re-enrollment has been verified. This typically takes place within the first month after classes begin in the fall.

    Nominations should be submitted on the form provided by the Alumni Association. These forms should include a written recommendation by the faculty member or department chair as to why the nominee should be considered for the award. Although the Alumni Association secures additional information and recommendations, members of the selection committee greatly value the original recommendation.

    When considering nominees, the Alumni Association wants everyone to know that they welcome multiple nominations, and that more than one student from a department can receive this scholarship.The selection committee will evaluate the nominations based on the individuals’ potential for success in their careers. If the committee determines the qualifications of the candidates are equal, financial need will be considered.

  • EYES OF THE STORM: Taylorville tornado coverage and communication, a year later

    Two meteorologists, a journalist and an emergency communicator, will speak on campus Wednesday, Nov. 20, near the one-year anniversary of the Taylorville, Illinois tornado that damaged and destroyed more than 100 homes and injured several people. Journalism professor Joe Astrouski, an award-winning journalist at WAND NBC 17 in Decatur, will moderate and contribute to a panel also consisting of Jesse Guinn, an EIU graduate and a member of the 25 Weather Tracker team from WEEK NBC 25 in Peoria; Joe Gasparich, a tornado recovery public information officer; and Chris Miller, a warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service. The four were instrumental in covering the Dec. 1, 2018, tornado that ripped through Taylorville. They will recall their experiences and share the lessons they learned from covering the storm. The free event begins at 7 p.m. in the Doudna Lecture Hall. The public is welcome and the event is free to attend.

  • EIUnity Diversity Conference Call for Submissions


    The Office of Inclusion & Academic Engagement is accepting proposals for our upcoming 12th Annual EIUnity Diversity Conference! The opportunity to showcase our commitment to and the advancement of DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, EQUITY, and ADVOCACY is upon us! The 2020 EIUnity Diversity Conference will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020, in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

    Conference presenters benefit from showcasing their work at the EIUnity Diversity Conference in many ways, including raising awareness, providing actionable strategies to enact change in the name of diversity and inclusion to the more than 150 attendees, and contributing to the learning objectives of our faculty, staff, students, and community. This year’s focus is on moving beyond discussion. We are looking for presentations, workshops, and trainings that are interactive and will leave attendees better equipped to identify injustice, disrupt discriminatory practices, and educate their peers on better methods to advance our mission of achieving a campus climate that exemplifies DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, EQUITY, and ADVOCACY.

    Nominations are being accepted for honorary degrees, which may be awarded by the Board of Trustees to persons who have achieved a record of major distinction at the state or national level in such areas as education, public service, research, humanities, business, or the professions. In exceptional circumstances, honorary degrees may be awarded to persons who, in the absence of earning widespread national or statewide recognition, have made an especially outstanding and significant contribution to EIU or higher education. Elected or appointed public officials in state or local government; members and employees of the BOT; and members and employees of the Board of Higher Education are ineligible for award of an honorary degree during their term of office or employment.   • Tarble Atrium Cinema: The Central Park Five (NR, 2012)


    北京快3回血技巧Join us for Tarble Cinema at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 19 in the Tarble Arts Center Atrium.  The Central Park Five, a film from award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns, tells the story of the five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem who were wrongfully convicted of raping a white woman in New York City’s Central Park in 1989. The film chronicles The Central Park Jogger case, for the first time from the perspective of these five teenagers whose lives were upended by this miscarriage of justice. (from PBS)

    Runtime is 2 hours. This event is free for members and students.

  • Impact Grant Award Winners

    This fall the Graduate School held an annual grant competition to help support faculty who engage in high impact mentoring practices. They received 16 applications for the Student Impact Grants for Faculty Mentors. Among these submissions, 12 were selected. Each award winner received $1,500 to be used during the academic year.     The Alumni Services Department is looking for volunteers to assist us with Fall Commencement.

  • Hit-Mix 88.9 WEIU FM Alum Roark Wins National Award


    Congratulations to Emma Roark (Hit-Mix 88.9 WEIU FM Alum, May 2019) for winning Fourth Place for the College Broadcasters, Inc. National Student Production Award for Best Feature New Reporting (audio), Eastern Illinois University – WEIU-FM – "Vest for Vito".  Roark is from Olney IL and studied Mass Communication at EIU. Congrats Emma!

  • Eastern News adviser Burnham wins national award


    Dr. Lola Burnham, a 1981 EIU journalism graduate, a journalism professor, interim director of Student Publications and the adviser for The Daily Eastern News, was recognized by Chris Evans, president of the College Media Association, with a CMA Distinguished Adviser Award at a ceremony Friday, Nov. 1, in Washington DC. 

    The Distinguished Adviser Award is presented to a CMA member who is a veteran college student media adviser and has distinguished service in advising student media. Burnham has been active with fundraising for the Student Press Law Center, is a past president and  officer for the Illinois College Press Association, and is a frequent presenter at state and national college media conventions on copy editing and law topics. The Daily Eastern News, now in its 104th year on campus, and her students, have won numerous awards during her tenure as adviser.  

  • Revised Monthly Payroll Deadline for November


    Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, new contracts, contract changes, Request for Supplemental Personal Service Payment forms, or any other items affecting the November monthly payroll, payroll MUST be received in the HR Employment Office by Tuesday, November 12th.   • We Are Almost There - Exhibition Open Through January 5


    Rachel Monosov is a conceptual artist that works with photography, video, performance and sculpture to highlight the conflict between concepts of identity, belonging, and cultural notions of alienation. Monosov’s exhibit will be on display from October 26 through January 5, in the Tarble Arts Center Main Gallery.

    The exhibit will create an immersive yet sparse environment that will explore how social norms are/are not blindly accepted. By combining elements from various bodies of work, Monosov raises a number of suspicions about the conditions of power and control, while also enacting a protest and beckoning for change.

    This event is free and open to the public.

  • Protest Banner Lending Library Exhibition Open through January 12 at Tarble Arts Center


    The Protest Banner Lending Library (PBLL) is a collaborative project coordinated by textile artist Aram Han Sifuentes and was formed in January 2017 as a response to the election and the direction of the political dialogue around racism and immigration. One of the main thrusts of the project is to create a space to empower participants while unpacking ideas of protest. At the end of this exhibition, banners created for this installation will be given to area organizations or have the chance to become part of the larger ongoing lending library.  The exhibition will open from October 26, 2019 through January 12, 2020 in the Brainard Gallery at the Tarble Arts Center. 

    This event is free and open to the public.

  • EIU Affinity Groups: Call for Proposals & Participation


    Eastern Illinois University is committed to fostering a learning community where all members feel welcomed and valued. To accomplish this goal, the university is committed to diversity and inclusion and encourages the development of a strong sense of belonging to EIU. In many ways, we rely on you as staff, faculty, and administration to lead that effort. In furtherance of that sense of community, the President and the entire leadership team has encouraged the creation of an affinity group initiative. 

    Affinity Groups are voluntary associations of EIU faculty, staff, and administration who gather together around a common interest. These groups play a vital role in developing and improving employee morale and the campus climate while supporting the University’s shared mission and vision of diversity and inclusion.

    Examples (not an exhaustive list) of potential Affinity Groups might include:

    • EIU Colleagues of Color Affinity Group

    • Sexual and Gender Diversity Affinity Group

    • Women of EIU Affinity Group 

      If you would like to create an Affinity Group, please submit a proposal with the following information:

      Your name and EIU contact information.

    • Proposed name for the affinity group.

    • How the affinity group will align with EIU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

    • How your group might assist in the recruiting and retention of a diverse EIU staff, faculty, and administration.

    • How your group might assist in strengthening the relationship between EIU and the surrounding community.

    Individual affinity groups will be open to all staff, faculty, and administration who believe they have something positive to offer or would simply like to enjoy the collegiality. You may even find yourself belonging to more than one!

    Once a group is approved, the initiative coordinator will schedule the first meeting of the group as a brown bag lunch, at which the members will begin getting to know one another, collaboratively agree on an official name and plan how the group will move forward.

  • Chi Sigma Iota T-Shirt Fundraiser Going On Now for Counseling/Mental Health

    Nominations are being accepted for the 2020 Joint College Alumni Awards. Alumni from the departments in the College of Education and the College of Health and Human Services are eligible. The nomination deadline is December 1. Learn more here.



    Your 2019 W2 will be available in January to print in PAWS. By consenting to receive your W2 online you can have immediate access to all your W2s back to 2007.

    The university will be closed in observance of Christmas and New Year's on Eastern's four official holidays: Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 25; and Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec 31, 2019 and Jan. 1, 2020. Please note all offices must remain open following fall graduation, December 16 up to and including December 23.

    In addition, this year, President Glassman has approved an extension of the Christmas Holidays offered to all benefit-eligible employees.  The University has designated December 26 as a “gift” day.  Employees will not have to use their own leave time for this day.  Essential employees of the University will still be required to work on the gift day.  Vice-Presidents and/or Directors will identify those areas/employees deemed essential for University operations.  An employee(s) identified as “essential” will be allowed to flex the gift day at another time, but must use that time by March 31, 2020.  FAQ’s regarding the Gift day may be found at http://znzpx.com/humanres/benefits/ .

    Employees who are in probationary status will be allowed to use any available accrued leave or take leave without pay during this time. Probationary employees who wish to use accrued leave during the holiday period must complete the Civil Service Employee Request for Accrued Leave During Probation form available in the Benefits Office. Supervisors are encouraged to approve such time-off requests unless the employment is required for essential duties during that period. Should an employee choose to take leave without pay, please note that accrued leave, sick leave and service credit will not be earned.

    Please note that the following eligibility rules apply for holiday compensation. Employees must be in an approved pay status, with or without pay, on the last scheduled work day before the holiday and the first scheduled work day following the holiday in order to receive holiday pay. Employees who are subject to the provisions of a prevailing-rate area agreement or a collective bargaining agreement will be paid according to the terms of the respective agreement.

    A time reporting code (762) has been previously created for use on time sheets and leave reports.  If you do not have to work on December 26, please report it under University Gift Day – Non-work.  If you must work on December 26, please report it under University Gift Day – Time worked.  If you must work and flex your day at another time, when you use that day, you will use the 763 – University Gift Day – Non-work at that time.

    Try-It! Illinois offers the opportunity to survey and evaluate a wide variety of electronic resources. Thanks to the partnerships between Illinois State Library and the participating electronic resource vendors, there is no charge for accessing these databases during Try-It! Illinois. The trial period lasts through Nov. 30, 2019.

    Vendors include ABC-CLIO, Scholastic, Bloomsbury, EBSCO, Oxford University Press, ProQuest, SAGE, InfoBASE, FactCite, and more. To access Try-It! Illinois, please visit the login page at the  and enter your EIU netID and password.

  • Employment Opportunity -- Assistant Professor, Biopsychology or Behavioral Neuroscience


    The Psychology Department at Eastern Illinois University has an opening for a full-time (9-month) tenure-track assistant professor in psychology faculty position in biopsychology or behavioral neuroscience. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2020.

    Individuals applying for the position should hold a Ph.D. in biopsychology, behavioral neuroscience, or closely related areas (e.g., cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience). We are particularly interested in individuals whose research focuses on human neuroscience.

    Duties include teaching undergraduate courses in psychology (e.g., biological psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and other areas of expertise, as well as areas of general need, e.g., research methods), advising, maintaining an active research program, and participating in service to the department and university. Individuals should also demonstrate commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence.

    The Department of Psychology serves over 400 undergraduate and graduate students, having undergraduate programs in psychology (BA) and neuroscience (BS), as well as graduate programs in clinical psychology (MA) and school psychology (MA, SSP). The Department also has an undergraduate honors program, and serves approximately 200 minors in psychology and neuroscience.

    Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) at the time of appointment. Other requirements include demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the college/university level and a commitment to research and scholarly activity.
